A Suitable Lens
Themes
Libby Larsen is one of America's most performed, living classical composers. Capturing the essence of her life's work and reimagining it as her digital legacy required immersive discovery and close collaboration. It also called for a suitable lens through which visitors could peer into Libby's world. Commonly used and regularly reoccurring throughout her immense body of work, Themes—curated by Libby—became the backbone of our approach. Creating a digital experience around Themes allows others to peer into Libby's work—to see, hear and experience it--as she does.
A Complex Library, Simplified
The Works
With hundreds of pieces to consider, many with singular variables, all with detailed instrumentation, we needed a powerful content management system and Contentful was the obvious choice. The ability to structure the catalog content model from the ground up also meant a greater flexibility in how we allowed users to interact with the data. The catalog can be searched, sorted and meticulously filtered, making in depth exploration of the works simple and efficient.
A Living Legend
Larger Than Life
Through in depth discovery sessions we determined when it came to representing Libby herself, only filmmaking could capture her poignant, stream-of-consciousness brilliance, with any justice. Partnering with a local film duo, we art directed and produced a total of 15 short films, each aligned to a Theme. Frozen lakes, brisk morning jogs and ancient cathedrals create mesmerizing backdrops for the composer’s pointedcommentary on life, death, music and everything in between.
